SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man fixing a neon sign outside a dance studio was rushed to a local hospital when he was jolted by 2,000 volts of electricity Monday.

Witnesses say the man fell from a ladder following the jolt received as he was changing the light ballast in a neon sign at D.F. Dance studio at 2978 S. State just before 4 p.m.

The man was unconscious but alive when he was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in serious to critical condition with burns and a severe head injury, said South Salt Lake Fire Deputy Chief Kevin Bowman.

Rocky Mountain Power workers shut down power in the area, Bowman said.
