MANILA — Firefighters have begun working to burn a large swath of forest in the Uinta Mountains.
Fire officials say the prescribed burn will be conducted on about 1,500 acres in the Elk Park and Honslinger area and will likely last until about May 1.
The burn is designed to reduce the danger of intense wildfires, said Flaming Gorge Ranger District fire management officer Rowdy Muir.
"These actions will help reduce the chances of incurring damage to the natural and cultural resources of the area," he said.
The exact schedule for the burn depends on the weather.
