SALT LAKE CITY — A former student and convicted sex offender was charged Wednesday with viewing child pornography at a Salt Lake Community College library.

Eric Bradford Brock, 34, told investigators with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that he was bored on Oct. 22, 2009, when he looked up images at the college's downtown library at 231 E. 400 South, according to charges filed in the 3rd District Court Wednesday.

Officials first discovered the images when a computer service worker was deleting old files because the computer was running slow and came across Brock's user account that had used a large amount of gigabytes, the charges state.

Brock, who was a student for two weeks at the college before dropping out, originally told investigators he had given his login and password to two friends he met while incarcerated at the Utah State Prison. But surveillance footage showed that it was Brock who had viewed the images, and he later said he had been bored and "wanted to kill some time," according to charges.

Prosecutors say police found more than 1,200 images of child pornography on library computers under Brock's user account. He was charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.

Brock pleaded guilty to attempted forcible sex abuse, a third-degree felony, in January 2003.
