BASEBALL: BELLEVUE, Washington — Five runs in the bottom of the eighth helped Seattle to an 11-9 win over Utah Valley in non-conference baseball action at Bannerwood Park on Tuesday afternoon.
After falling behind by three runs early on, the Wolverines (28-17) had an 8-6 lead in the eighth before the Redhawks (8-33) scored their seventh run on a bases-loaded walk. Seattle tied the game a batter later when Cullen Hendrickson was hit by a pitch just off the inside of the plate, the third time he was hit on the day.
Jace Brinkerhoff went 4-for-5 with three RBI in UVU's fifth game in the last five days on both U.S. coasts. After playing four games on Long Island in New York over the weekend, the Wolverines flew to Seattle on Monday before Tuesday's noon first pitch in Bellevue.
Billy Burgess had two hits including a two-run home run as part of a four-run fifth as the UVU took a 5-4 lead.
The Wolverines led 6-4 when Seattle scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. Utah Valley came right back in the seventh when Brinkerhoff singled home Rickenbach.
An inning later Rickenbach singled to score Goose Kallunki to put the Wolverines up two.
In the ninth, Kallunki had a two-out single to score Brinkerhoff but that's as close as Utah Valley could get.
Sam Armstrong (3-3) took the loss while Eric Yardley (1-0) got the win after recording the final out of the eighth. Bryan Dalton got his third save for the Redhawks.
