Leon Veness

1932~2010
Leon V. Honey passed away in Mt. Pleasant on May 15, 2010 at age 77. He was born May 31, 1932 in Schenectady, NY to William Veness and Leona La Prelle Ellsworth Honey. Due to his father's work for G.E. and service in the Army, Leon and family lived in various states all across the country. He attended Eastern New Mexico University, Brigham Young University (where he met his wife) and graduated from Arizona State with Bachelor and Masters degrees. He married Barbara Lynn Williams in the Salt Lake Temple April 7, 1953.
He taught band and orchestra in elementary schools in Phoenix, AZ, high school in Garden Grove, CA and junior and high school in Alpine School District in Utah County. He was involved in music all his life playing his clarinet professionally and non professionally in orchestras in different states including the Utah Valley Symphony. He served in the 424th Army Band in El Paso, TX. He conducted ward and stake choirs and directed the Pleasant Grove Civic Symphony for several years.
He was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many different capacities including twice as a counselor in bishoprics and as a high councilman. He served a stake mission plus two missions with his wife in Brazil and Colorado.
He is survived by his wife, and eight children: Sylvia (Brent) Barlow, David (Yi-chin), Patricia (Alan) Romriell, Alan (Peggy), Robert (Erika), Douglas (Julie), Mark (Sharon), Nancy (Kirk) Flannigan; 42 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and sister Joan Floyd. Preceded in death by his parents and brother William.
A viewing will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rasmussen Mortuary, 96 N. 100 W., Mt. Pleasant, Monday, May 17. Services will be held Tuesday, May 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant 4th Ward Bldg, 49 S. State, Mt. Pleasant, UT. A viewing will also be held prior to the services from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. at the chapel. Burial in the Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery.
