PROVO — Dean Sanpei is on the fast track to become Utah's newest state representative.
Sanpei, the Republican candidate for House District 63, is the only person to apply to the Utah County Republican Party for the seat being vacated by Rep. Steve Clark, R-Provo, who has accepted an assignment as president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' mission in St. Louis.
GOP county delegates from Sanpei's district in northeast Provo will meet at 6:30 p.m. June 3 at Wasatch Elementary to ratify Sanpei as their choice to replace Clark. The actual appointment will be made by Gov. Gary Herbert.
Sanpei will face Democratic candidate Don Jarvis in the November election.
