"Grandma Joy"
Our loving Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father on May 15, 2010, of natural causes. She was born October 13, 1931, to Glenn and Erma Michie Olsen. She married Jay B. Burgener, and together they had two children, Valerie Joy and Glenn J. They were later divorced. She then married Gordon Mendenhall, and together they enjoyed traveling and playing. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2006. She missed him every day.
Joy was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the church. She was famous for finding the perfect gift that always made you smile. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she could make any flower bloom.
Joy is survived by her children, Valerie (Brent) Sweat, Heber City, Utah, and Glenn (Beverly) Burgener, Lyman, Wyoming; seven grandchildren, Clark, Alisa, Jennifer, Greggory, Scott, Melisa, and Angie; 18 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Faye (Lamar) Casper, Arizona and Gladys Gee, Florida; brothers, Darr Olsen and Les (Joyce) Olsen, Heber City, Utah; step children, Dean (Jackie) Mendenhall, Paul (Judy) Mendenhall, and Kathryn (Craig) Mann. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Mendenhall, parents, and sisters, Sherry Olsen and Mary
Cummings.
Special thanks to Rocky Mountain Care Center and her special friend and hair dresser, Ritch Giles. She is finally able to dance, play, and shop.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 21, 2010 - 12 noon at the Heber LDS 1/6/9th Ward, 325 E. 500 N., Heber, UT. Viewing will be held from 10:00-11:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment in the Heber City Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home.
