SEATTLE — Kyle Kraus improved his record to 9-0 in leading No. 26 Portland to a 5-1 victory over BYU's baseball team on Saturday.

Kraus fanned eight Cougars and handcuffed them at timely moments as BYU fell to 18-23 for the season.

"This was a tough weekend with two walk-off losses," said BYU coach Vance Law. "We hit balls hard all weekend and couldn't get a timely hit when we were in scoring position. (Chris) Capper pitched very well and we didn't give him any support."

The Cougars stranded runners in each of the first five innings against the Pilots.

BYU freshman hurler Chris Capper struck out two Pilots in each of the first three innings as the game was deadlocked through four.

TCU 11, UTAH 4: At Ogden, C.J. Cron and Nik Gumeson each homered for Utah as the baseball team lost its second game to TCU. Similar to Friday's game, TCU jumped out early, taking a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Matt Curry had a two-RBI double in the game while Jerome Pena also had a two-RBI single.

SOUTHERN UTAH 9, NORTH DAKOTA STATE 3: At Fargo, N.D., the Thunderdbirds played just one of the two games scheduled. SUU is now 13-27 on the year.
