LAMBS CANYON — Police have identified the driver who was killed Friday when his car had a head-on collision with a semitrailer on I-80 near milepost 135.

Sandy resident Michael Allen Park, 74, was pronounced dead on the scene, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Plank.

A westbound FedEx semitrailer apparently crossed the median at about 6:20 p.m., striking the eastbound car head-on and likely killing the driver instantly, Plank said.

The FedEx truck driver and a passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to a hospital, he said.

The FedEx truck ended up off the side of the freeway.

Why the FedEx truck crossed the median remains unknown, but Plank said the road was wet at the time.
