Thomas Dale Kerby (Readers' Forum, May 21) says Mike Lee is "uniquely qualified" because Lee is a constitutional lawyer. Wait a minute! Doesn't President Barack Obama have the same qualifications, and from Harvard no less?

We need a statesman to go to Washington and fix things that will require compromise. Wait another minute! In Utah we throw out anyone who would dare to compromise. Would we even have the Constitution or our nation as we know it if our Founding Fathers had not, in the end, compromised?

The fathers worked it out. Not all went home happy. But we ended up with the beginning of a great nation.

I'm not sure if being a constitutional lawyer is a solution or adds to the problem. Maybe the Supreme Court is the place for all these so-called constitutional experts. Then again …
