The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will send a research team to the Geauga County Archives Department within the next year to digitally record historical documents as part of the church's massive overhaul of its immense worldwide genealogical records collection.
"For over 100 years, we have served record custodians throughout the world," said Manuel Sanhueza of Quebec, field supervisor for FamilySearch Imaging Services.
"FamilySearch, historically known as the Genealogy Society of Utah, is dedicated to preserving the records of the family of mankind. Our purpose is simple — to help people connect with their ancestors through easy access to historical records."
A major tenet of the Mormon Church is the importance of people to learn about their ancestors, to collect genealogical and historical records throughout the world, and to share their information freely with anyone, regardless of whether they are church members.
