ST. GEORGE — Two Las Vegas men were booked into jail Wednesday for investigation of aggravated robbery in an incident involving a woman at an area check-cashing store, police said.

Police say the two men beat and robbed a clerk at Tienda el Paraiso, 439 N. Bluff St., just after 10 a.m., said St. George Police spokesman James Schafer. He said one of the men entered the building and punched a female employee in the face before stealing her purse.

The man then ran from the business and got into a white passenger car driven by the other who drove south toward the interstate. Area law enforcement officers issued an attempt to locate on the vehicle and it was spotted soon after by a Utah Highway Patrol trooper, Schafer said.

The trooper stopped the car with two men inside. Police recovered stolen property and booked Jose Antonio Marquiez, 18, and Vicente Bustamente, 18, into the Washington County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, Schafer said.

The employee sustained some facial injuries that led to a hospital visit, but she was released later that day, Schafer said.
