PROVO CANYON — A Herriman woman was killed late Thursday in what troopers say might be an alcohol-related crash.
Karilyn Oborn, 40, and a 29-year-old female passenger were traveling west through Provo Canyon just after 11:30 p.m. when Oborn drifted to the left side of the road and then overcorrected to the right, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Steven Winward. The vehicle hit a concrete barrier and rolled multiple times, ultimately landing on its hood, Winward said.
The passenger was able to free herself, but Oborn had to be extricated from the vehicle by passing motorists who had witnessed the crash. Oborn died at the scene.
The passenger was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in critical condition with broken bones and lacerations but is expected to survive, Winward said.
The crash is still under investigation, but Winward said investigators found bottles of alcohol at the scene. The passenger also confirmed that they had been drinking, Winward said.
