LAS VEGAS — Members of the Red Rock Nevada Stake in Las Vegas helped remove 40 tons of landscape waste, construction spoils and trash from the edge of the Summerlin West development on May 1.

Members made up more than 100 resident volunteers, alongside professional contractors and executives from The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin. This was the second desert clean-up event in less than a year.

"We credit the success of this clean-up to the many corporations, organizations and individuals who graciously donated their time and energy to help with this clean-up, including our friends from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, " said Tom Warden, senior vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corporation.

"The church's number of volunteers and caliber of work was impressive," Warden said.

The community is currently home to nearly 100,000 residents and encompasses 22,500 acres where desert dumping has been a major problem.

"We believe it's important to be active and serve in our communities," said Bishop Rick Phillips, of the Alta Vista Ward, Red Rock Nevada Stake.

Mitch McClellan, a member of the high council said, "It's great to give back and beautify our home."
