Tonia Freeman Doussett wrote an excellent reply to Eric Samuelson on his non-crisis view of illegal immigration ("A fake crisis?" Readers' Forum, June 4). I would like to add what the governor of Arizona had to say about the problem. The U.S. Justice Department said that Mexican gangs are our biggest organized crime threat. Phoenix is now the nation's kidnapping capital. Almost all kidnap victims were illegal or linked to the drug trade. Until January 2009, any smugglers carrying under the threshold of 500 pounds of narcotics were often not prosecuted. Narcotic prosecutions have risen 202 percent in 16 months. About 1,080 prosecutions will still be refused this year in the Tucson sector alone. Obama needs to do his job and secure the border.
