Gov. Gary Herbert thinks the Arizona immigration law, which he says allows law officers to question people solely on the basis of a "hunch," is wrong and will result in discrimination and all sorts of untoward things. However, it is Herbert who is egregiously wrong.

The Arizona law is, in reality, the federal law that has been on the books for some time but which the federal government does not see fit to enforce. What does Herbert think about the federal law? It seems he hasn't read the Arizona law. Has he read the federal law?

In essence, he seems to be saying that being illegal is now legal. If this really is a nation of law, then only those who come here in a lawful manner should be allowed to remain. Such a position is not profiling. Nor is it discriminatory. It is simply being true to America. We should all support Arizona — not denigrate it — as it legitimately tries to control its own borders, something that the federal government has chosen not to do.
