SARATOGA SPRINGS — The fire department will be testing and inspecting fire hydrants in Saratoga Springs over the next several weeks to make sure they are in working condition.

The testing began Monday and will cover all of the city's nearly 850 fire hydrants. It is expected to take two months to complete.

After a test, nearby residents may encounter cloudy water coming from taps in their homes. The water can be cleared by running the faucet for five minutes.

Residents also are being asked to keep a clear path of three feet around the fire hydrant. If they do not, firefighters may not be able to see the hydrant and that could cause a delay in accessing water to fight a fire.
