SALT LAKE CITY — A 26-year-old construction worker was trapped about 6 p.m. Tuesday after fire officials say a hole collapsed at a work site.

Workers were digging near the foundation of a home under construction in the North Cove gated community when a 10-foot-deep hole collapsed, trapping the man up to his waist.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to the scene to dig the man out. Workers removed the dirt five gallons at a time, stabilizing the dirt as it was removed from around the man, officials said.

Officials said it took about an hour to remove the man. He was complaining about pain in his legs and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries
