BERLIN (AP) — German Economy Minister Rainer Bruederle says he has rejected a request for government aid by General Motors Co. for its Opel unit.

Opel is seeking loan guarantees totaling more than euro1 billion ($1.2 billion) from Germany, where it has four plants.

A committee that examines requests for aid from a fund for companies hit by the economic crisis met Wednesday but failed to reach a decision — punting the matter to Bruederle.
