SPRINGVILLE — City officials issued a boil order for about 100 homes in the Left Hand Fork area just outside Springville after E. coli bacteria were found in the water supply.

The contaminated water was discovered late Tuesday after results came back on a routine water test for a million-gallon tank in Hobble Creek Canyon.

"To our knowledge, no one has become sick," Springville operations manager Ron Oldroyd said. "We don't know the reason for the E. coli, but will be investigating further (Wednesday) morning."

Although it hasn't been confirmed, Oldroyd said the contaminated water could be a result of increased water rushing through local streams and hitting the banks.

About 100 homes in the canyon were issued notices about the boil order, which is expected to last about two weeks.
