MILLCREEK — A man in his mid-20s was rushed by medical helicopter to University Hospital on Tuesday after a collision with a vehicle left him in critical condition.
The man was riding a bicycle at 3386 E. 3900 South around 4:40 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle, said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Clint Smith. The man was unconscious but breathing when crews arrived. His condition was dire enough to prompt responders to call immediately for a helicopter, Smith said.
Smith said he did not yet know whether the man was wearing a helmet or exactly how the accident occurred, though he said there were many witnesses to the crash.
"There were multiple calls immediately after the accident from several witnesses and even the driver, so it's probably heavily traveled, and we're in the evening commute as well," he said.
