We should ask ourselves what are the consequences of the invitation for people to come to the United States as referenced in the plaque on the Statue of Liberty. The "tired and poor" came and then later intermarried. I am a descendant, and I am both tired and poor. The "huddled masses" came and settled in the big cities where they could huddle. Those who settled in Los Angeles are still trying to breathe. We see descendants of the "wretched refuse" now occupying our prisons. Some, however, became successful and are in Hollywood and Las Vegas. The "homeless" were not a problem until now because it was difficult for them to procreate without a home. We are just now seeing them in large numbers. I can't find out what happened to the "tempest tossed." Perhaps they were lost at sea.
We should and do extend an invitation to people all over the world to come here and help us build this nation. We just ask that they learn our language, obey our laws and respect our Constitution.
