SOUTH JORDAN — A bicyclist was flown to the hospital in serious condition, with head injuries, after a turning car crashed into him Thursday.
The bicyclist, estimated to be in his 30s, was heading eastbound on 10400 South when a vehicle at 1055 West turned left in front of him at about 7:15 p.m.
The bicyclist collided with the side of the vehicle, and because he wasn't wearing a helmet, officials decided to fly him by helicopter to University Hospital in Salt Lake City as a precaution.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
"With the amount of vehicles on the road, we really want to stress the importance of wearing a helmet anytime you're on a bicycle," South Jordan Fire Capt. Nathan Morreale said.
The accident is still under investigation.
