I am shocked by the seemingly endless train of people who are condemning the building of an Islamic center near ground zero. While most acknowledge the fact that their actions are protected by the First Amendment, they complain that it is "insensitive" to build so near to "hallowed ground." Former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani even went as far as to say that the planners of the cultural center could be good guys and build somewhere else, or build near ground zero and be bad guys. Not too long ago, a good number of cartoonists created some controversy by drawing pictures of Muhammad. These cartoons offended the religious sensitivities of Muslims all over the world. Not one person now complaining of the insensitivity of the cultural center that "unnecessarily offends" Americans complained that the cartoons unnecessarily offended Muslims. It seems it is acceptable to offend Muslims but not to offend Americans. When did we become so thin-skinned and self-righteous?
