We frequently hear that our immigration system is broken. How is it broken? We have laws in place that prohibit illegal entry into the United States. We also have an immigration process that enables people to legally come to the United States and become citizens. There are also laws and legal processes that allow entry for education and work. The only part of the system that is broken is the failure of the federal government to secure our borders.
We also hear that our immigration system is controversial. What's the controversy? Seventy percent to 80 percent of Americans support these laws and also the "controversial" Arizona law. The 20 percent who oppose these laws are illegal aliens, amnesty and open-border proponents, some religious leaders, Democrats and President Barack Obama. They are the ones making up the "controversy."
