New Catholic Church opens in St. George
ST. GEORGE — Celebration of the dedication of the new Catholic Church, 259 W. 200 North, will conclude this weekend.
Today there will be an auction of art and artifacts at 6 p.m., followed by a fundraiser dinner at the holiday inn.
On Sunday, 12:30 p.m., there will be a multilingual thanksgiving Mass, "Crowning of Our Lady of Guadalupe."
This event is open to the public at the new church.

Temple to celebrate Krishna birthday

Kids in for a treat on first school day
SALT LAKE CITY — Congregation Kol Ami's Rafi Schwartz Religious School will open the school year Sunday with an event of "biblical proportions."
The 150 young Jewish students, ages 3-13, at the school will be greeted at 9 a.m. for the new school year by "Moses," "Miriam" and live animals.
Actors portraying Moses and Miriam, along with a flock of live goats, sheep, a camel and a donkey, will welcome each child and their families on their first day of Religious School this year.
"It will not only be a great event of biblical proportions at Kol Ami, but one in the life of our school that will be long remembered by all the children," said Liz Paige, chairwoman of the religious school committee and mother of a student. "How often do we get to talk to Moses or sing and drum with Miriam?"
Children will be able to pet the goats, sheep, donkey and camel as the children step back into Jewish history.
Congregation Kol Ami (www.conkolami.org) is the largest and only joint Reform and Conservative synagogue in Utah, at 2425 Heritage Way.
First Baptist adjusts meeting schedule
PROVO — The First Baptist Church, 1144 W. Columbia Lane, will be adjusting its meeting schedule next month.
Beginning Sept. 5, First Baptist Church will move meeting times to 9:30-10:30 a.m. for Sunday School and Bible study and 10:45 a.m.-noon for worship celebration.
This Sunday's worship service will still begin at 11 a.m. and feature preaching of a series on the Gospel of Mark, which will give people a fresh view of Jesus.

Church planning annual barbecue
OGDEN — Congregational United Church of Christ, 3350 Harrison Blvd., will sponsor its ninth annual "Holy Smoke Barbecue" on Sept. 11, 3-6 p.m.
There will be music by the Stringtown Old-Time Blue Grass Band, Cowboy Poetry and games and all-you-can-eat smoked ribs.
This fundraiser is being offered to the Utah community on the lawn of the church, with the cost being $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 4-12. It is free for those ages 3 and under.

Organ Festival begins on Sept. 12
SALT LAKE CITY — The 17th annual Eccles Organ Festival at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 E. South Temple, will begin Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. and continue every other Sunday through Nov. 7.
This event is made possible by a generous grant from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation and is supported in part by a grant from the Utah Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington, D.C., and Salt Lake Zoo, Arts and Parks.

Catholic pilgrimage heading to Mexico
The Most Rev. John C. Wester, Catholic bishop of Salt Lake, will lead a pilgrimage Oct. 10-15 to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, the Tula Pyramids, Querétaro, Morelia, Guadalajara and the Tequila Express.

Women's Bible class to study Isaiah
