SALT LAKE CITY — A downed power line caused closures on I-15 from both directions for almost an hour Friday and led to a power outage that affected more than 1,000 customers.

The line fell onto the roadway about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Utah Highway Patrol trooper Todd Johnson said. He said no one was injured and no accidents were caused, but troopers had to shut down the interstate near 600 South for about an hour. They are investigating what caused the incident, which led to traffic being diverted between the 600 South and I-80 West exits.

Johnson said they are unsure what caused the power line to fall. He said the downed line also caused some small brushfires, which are not a threat at this point.

The downed line caused a power outage that impacted approximately 1,100 Rocky Mountain Power customers, spokeswoman Margaret Oler said. As of 5 p.m., they were still without power.

"We've got our guys on the scene there and they'll be making repairs during the evening," she said. "Their first priority is getting the power restored. We'll know more (about the cause) when they can get back in."
