Robert Morgan Evans 1921 ~ 2010
Robert Morgan Evans, 89, died August 23, 2010, at home with his family at his side.He was born Aug. 6, 1921 in Salt Lake City, to Walter J. and Amelia Morgan Evans. He married his sweetheart, Rosa Mae McClellan, on Feb. 14, 1947, ensuring that he would never forget their anniversary date. He was a faithful member of the LDS church, and served as a missionary in the Spanish-American mission for nearly three years. He also served his country in the Maritime Service during World War II as a purser on supply and hospital ships. Bob graduated from West High School and studied at LDS Business College. He was employed by Cate Equipment Company for 43 years. Bob's greatest enjoyment came from singing. He was a member of SPEBSQSA for 50 years. He sang with the Beehive Statesman Chorus and in the Lakeshore Four, The Evans Quartet, and the One More Time barbershop quartets, winning the International Senior Barbershop Quartet Championship in 1992. The quartets blessed the lives of many who heard them sing at weddings and funerals. He loved good food, was a talented cook, and left a legacy of favorite recipes for his family. He was also a talented artist. Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Evans Pratt, and a granddaughter, Danielle Evans. Surviving him are his wife, Rosa Mae; his four children, Janet (Steven Packham), Robert J., William J. (Jean), Thomas D.; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren, all of whom loved him dearly. We, as children, express our love and appreciation to our mother for her selfless devotion to the care of our father, and to Envision Hospice for their help in caring for Bob. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Farm Hill Ward Chapel, 5235 Wesley Road (1120 East). Friends may visit with the family Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, and one hour prior to services Monday at the Church.
