SALT LAKE CITY — A handful of Utah nonprofits will receive nearly $310,000 in grants from a fellow nonprofit — the Daniels Fund.

Utah recipients include the Ability Foundation, Murray; Boys & Girls Clubs of Brigham City; House of Hope, Salt Lake City; Housing Opportunities, Salt Lake City; Transitions, Blanding; and Youth Impact, Ogden. The organizations will share $309,776 in grants.

"Nonprofit organizations are stung twice by our unsettled economy — demand for their services surges at the same time resources, and donations dry up," said Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. "That awareness drives our continued support of the organizations that do so much for the most vulnerable in our communities."

The Daniels Fund was created in 1997 by Bill Daniels, former cable TV pioneer and owner of the Utah Stars, a former American Basketball Association team.

Grants were available to nonprofits in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.
