Quarterback
Diondre Borel, 6-0, 195, Sr.
Now a senior, the multi-threat Borel is a talented runner, an accurate thrower and becoming a better decision maker. If injured, however, USU will be forced to play a true freshman in either Jeremy Higgins or Alex Hart. Coach Gary Andersen is praying for Borel to stay safe.
Running back
Michael Smith, 5-9, 195, Sr.
Derrvin Speight, 5-9, 209, Sr.
Kerwynn Williams, 5-9, 185, So.
USU will sorely miss injured star Robert Turbin, but Smith is a lightning-quick rusher with surprising power. Speight adds a tough between-the-tackles runner while Williams is a Darren Sproles in the making with his speed and elusiveness.
Offensive line
Spencer Johnson, 6-7, 305, Sr.
Philip Gapelu, 6-2, 298, Jr.
Robert Hill, 6-2, 290, Jr.
Tyler Larsen, 6-4, 298, Fr.
Tariq Polley, 6-4-296, Sr.
Larsen is young but getting rave reviews at center for USU and the rest of the line has had a year to get up to speed. Without Turbin, the line will need to be in top form as the Ags try to get their running game on track.
Wide receiver, tight end
Matt Austin, 6-2, 198, Jr.
Dontel Watkins, 6-2, 193, Jr.
Travis Reynolds, 6-0, 170, Fr.
Kellen Bartlett, 6-2, 245, Jr.
Without speedster Stanley Morrison (foot injury) this year, USU will turn to a slew of talented but inexperienced players. The good thing is, that talent is abundant and Aggies are two deep across the board.
Defensive backs
Rajric Coleman, 6-1, 195, Sr.
Curtis Marsh, 6-1, 195, Sr.
Walter McClenton, 5-11, 190, Jr.
Chris Randle, 5-11, 185, Sr.
Loaded with experience, but pushed by talented youngsters, the defensive backfield has a chance to make a difference this year and will be asked to stop some high-powered passing games.
Linebackers
Bobby Wagner, 6-1, 230, Jr.
Junior Keiaho, 6-3, 245, Jr.
Kyle Gallagher, 6-0, 215, Jr.
Devin Johnson, 6-2, 235, Sr.
By far the deepest position on the defense. Wagner is all-WAC and Keiaho and Johnson move back from defensive end. Quick and hard hitting, the linebackers will play up to assist the line and blitz often.
Defensive line
Levi Koskan, 6-4, 240, Jr.
Sean Enesi, 6-0, 290, Sr.
Daniel Gurrola, 6-1, 285, Sr.
Nathan Royster, 6-0, 265, Sr.
A little undersized, the Aggie D-line was pushed around too much last year. Still on the small side, but not so much, USU vows to improve — especially in the red zone — with Andersen now coaching them directly.
Special teams
Peter Caldwell, 6-4, 225, Sr.
Patrick Scales, 6-4, 230, Sr.
Caldwell has won both the punting and place kicking jobs after a strong summer and fall camp. He's been rock-solid in camp. Scales handled long snapping duties last year, while receiver Eric Moats is the holder.
