Richard Aaron Asay, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.He was born on December 15, 1928 in Lovell, Wyoming, a son of Reed and Lucy Neves Asay. Richard married Anna Marie Johnson on February 19, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He served in the US Army and received an honorable discharge. Richard was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings. He served a full time mission in the Palestine Syrian Mission and one with his wife in Brussels, Belgium. He was also a member of The Sons of Utah Pioneers. He worked as Supervisor of Internal Audit at the Internal Revenue Service in Ogden, retiring in 1989. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and had a great sense of humor. His children and grandchildren loved to hear him tell stories of his life and also the Christmas story. Surviving is his wife, Anna Marie of Brigham City; three children, Jolee (Randy) Thompson, Brigham City; Alan (Jan) Asay, Corinne; Cinde (John) Ragona of Bettendorf, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and six and a half great-grandchildren. Also surviving one brother and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his father Reed Asay, mother, Lucy Asay Cox, one brother and two sisters. The family would like to thank Love Hospice for all their care and concern, especially Jason, Curtis, Lacey, Bailee and Heather. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the Perpetual Education Fund or Humanitarian Service, 50 East North Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84150. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 14th LDS Ward Chapel, 650 Anderson Drive. Family will greet friends on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah and on Monday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by Box Elder Combined Veterans.
