VOLLEYBALL: TWIN FALLS, Idaho — The SLCC Volleyball team hit the road for the first time in the 2010 season and come home with a 4-1 record. Shelbi Zaldain and Ame White led the charge during the tournament combining for 91 kills together in five matches.

To open up the tournament SLCC faced conference opponent North Idaho College. In a five set thriller Salt Lake rallied to win the fifth set 15-13. Shelbi Zaldain finished with 18 kills and Ame White added 12 kills. Catalina Charry collected 48 set assists and defensively Anna Burgess had 20 digs.

Salt Lake took care of Northwest CC easily winning in three sets. Zaldain had four service aces, eight kills and nine digs while Kellie Turner had two solo blocks, eight digs and seven kills.

Next up was the Snow College Badgers, once again White and Zaldain proved to be too much for the opposing team. Zaldain finished with 13 kills while White added 12 kills along with 13 digs. Catalina Charry controlled the offense with 41 set assists, eight digs and seven block assists.

Two freshmen lead the way against Eastern Utah with Kellie Turner finishing with seven kills and seven digs and setter Kemi McFarland had 27 set assists along with two service aces.

The final match of the tournament was Salt Lake's hardest test facing an always-competitive Miami Dade team. Zaldain and White did all they could both finishing in double digit kills however Miami proved to be too much. Zaldain had 12 kills, 19 digs with four service aces and White played her best match of the weekend with 16 kills, 11 digs and two solo blocks.

The third ranked Bruins remain at home to host the Marriott Residence Inn Invitational starting on September 3rd.
