PROVO — Heath Thurston used a strong swim and a stronger run to win the Utah Half triathlon Saturday with a time of 4:13:26. Thurston was first out of the water but passed by Spencer Woolston during the 56-mile bike leg. B.J. Christensen was close behind and closed the gap during the 13.1 mile run, passing Woolsten but not quite catching Thurston, finishing about a minute behind on the 70.3 mile course. Woolsten rounded out the men's podium finishing a few minutes back.

In the women's race, Anne Heiner broke the five hour barrier with a 4:58:02 after making up nearly eight minutes after the swim. Lynette Miller was second, at 5:01:12 and Colleen Rue crossed the line in third to round out the podium.
