SALT LAKE CITY — A man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Friday in the hijacking of a UTA bus.

The bus from the Utah Transit Authority was at one of its stops at 400 South and 275 West about 7:30 a.m. when a man scaled the bike rack and side mirror and climbed on the roof of the bus, said UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenter.

"He wouldn't come down. Police responded and had to climb up there and get him," he said.

It took police about 30 minutes to get the man off the bus. In the meantime, the 13 passengers who were on board were escorted off and transferred to another bus.

Once officers got the man down, they described him as being disoriented and suffering from a few scrapes from climbing the bus.

"They were still trying to determine his motivation," Carpenter said.

Anthony Edmund, 35, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of hijacking a bus, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

The bus sustained minor damage, Carpenter said.
