TOPEKA, Kan. — A member of the Washburn University Symphony Orchestra will hear a live performance of a cantata he composed nearly four decades ago for the first time Sunday.

A cantata is a vocal composition with musical accompaniment.

Composer Robert Johnson based the piece, titled "Nephi," on accounts from the first two books of the Book of Mormon. He will be in the choir when it is performed Sunday at the Topeka Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"I've been waiting for a long time to actually hear it," Johnson told The Topeka Capital-Journal.
