WEST VALLEY CITY — A 15-year-old boy was fatally stabbed Monday afternoon in front of a West Valley City store.
The stabbing occurred shortly before 5 p.m. in front of a Family Dollar at 4760 W. 4715 South, according to West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell.
Family members speaking to KSL-TV identified the dead boy as Taylor Pankow. He was a sophomore at Hunter High School and played wide receiver on the school's football team. He also had a twin brother named Traci.
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the killing, Powell said. He said the two apparently had a dispute, but its cause is unknown.
The suspect's name has not been released.
People at the scene told KSL-TV that Pankow was not a troublemaker or in a gang.
"It's shocking to know someone your own age, one of your friends, is just gone," said teammate Tasi Malala.
