The Salt Lake County Council plans to discuss the Parleys Historic Nature Park issue during its 1:30 p.m. work session today.

County Councilman Steve DeBry said the main issue is that the area some call "The Gully" is owned by Salt Lake City but is policed by the county's Unified Police Department. "Maybe we should charge Salt Lake City for policing their area," DeBry said.

Also, what occurs in the area affects residents of Millcreek Township, he said.

Scott Creswell, who lives in the Canyon Rim community, said he and his neighbors are concerned over graffiti, partying youths, gunshots, car burglaries, long-boarders and hikers on the streets until midnight or later, speeding and reckless driving on the neighborhood streets, fires, drug deals, dogs off leashes, lost-dog posters littering the neighborhood and out-of-control dogs in the yards. "This thing is out of control," Cresswell said, adding residents are signing a petition for government officials to rectify the situation.
