WEST JORDAN — An elderly man was transported by air to University Hospital after an unattended item on his stove caught fire in his home Saturday evening.
Battalion Chief Clint Petersen with the West Jordan Fire Department said an item on the stove started the fire, which then spread to the kitchen cabinets and attic before it was put out at 8394 S. Barnstable Drive.
Petersen said the man's caretaker had trouble getting him out of the house, but all other occupants made it out uninjured. He said the man sustained no burns but had soot around both his mouth and nose and was taken to the hospital in case of smoke particle inhalation, Petersen said.
He said the fire took about 15 minutes to put out.
