According to his Sept. 22 letter to Governor Gary R. Herbert, Mayor Corroon has apparently accepted over $250,000 from large donors or donors that do business before Salt Lake County. If the Mayor has reservations about any of those donations and the influence they have on his ability to govern Salt Lake County, his commitment to returning them should not be contingent upon the governor.

As governor, Gary Herbert has maintained an open, transparent and ethical administration and campaign. How he governs the State of Utah is not affected by who does or does not support our election campaign.

Having signed the most sweeping series of ethics reform legislation in the history of Utah, and voluntarily posting his campaign contributions online, Governor Herbert has proven that he is committed to an open and transparent election process. The many issues of campaign and ethics reform are certainly important and worthy of ongoing public debate and consideration.
