For about a dozen years, the church has employed Bob Parrot, a forestry specialist, to take care of the Sacred Grove and Hill Cumorah.

Though not a Latter-day Saint, Parrot views these sites as sacred and treats them as a loving parent would take care of a child. He has done much to improve the health of the grove, which was somewhat threatened in past decades.

Parrot has identified six trees that were growing in the grove in 1820. He refers to them as the "Witness Trees," meaning that they were there to witness the First Vision, the greatest event since the Resurrection of the Savior.
