James Nolan Knight 1923 ~ 2011
James Nolan Knight, 87, passed away at home on Jan. 3, 2011. He was born Sept. 17, 1923 in Woodland, UT., to Ernest and Hazel Carlile Knight. He married Betty Bullen on Nov. 24, 1950, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Upon graduation from South Summit High School, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II flying more than 50 missions in the 8th and 9th Air Forces. He graduated from Utah State University in 1950 with a BS in Education. Jim retired as a coach and a secondary school teacher after nearly 40 years. He also, simultaneously, worked for Hi-land Dairy. He was an avid horseman, sportsman, golfer and square-dancer. Jim provided service to the community as a volunteer to the annual Senior Games in St. George. He was the chairman of the Special Events Committee for the 1991 National Square Dance Convention in Salt Lake City. Survived by his wife Betty, sons, Paul (Cindy), and Kevin (Diana). Also by his grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer), Richard, Andrea and Gary, as well as a brother, Farrell (Deann). Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carlile. Funeral services will be held Sat., Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 10600 S. 1950 E., Sandy, UT. There will be visitations Fri. 6-8 p.m. and Sat. 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary with interment to follow. Online condolences at www.larkincares.com
