RENO, Nev. — Two second-half goals powered the Utah State women's soccer team over Nevada Sunday as a defensive battle transformed into a 2-0 Aggie victory.
With the win, Utah State betters its record to 11-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in Western Athletic Conference action. The Aggies have now won at least 10 matches in six of the last nine seasons, and are now just two wins away from tying the school record for wins in a season when the 2008 squad went 13-8-1.
In the 70th minute, the Aggies' junior defender Natalie Norris snapped a 0-0 tie with a header for her third goal of the season. Utah State doubled its lead in the 86th minute when sophomore Kendra Pemberton continued her red-hot streak. The Aggies remain on the road next week with just one match on the docket. USU will travel to Moscow, Idaho to take on the University of Idaho on Friday at 4 p.m. for its final regular-season road match.
VOLLEYBALL
UMKC 3, SUU 1: At Kansas City, Southern Utah University's women's volleyball dropped the second leg of its conference road trip with a four-set defeat at UMKC on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the T-Birds to 6-16 overall and 3-8 in Summit League play.
Analaine Pelaez-Mailoto led all attackers during the afternoon with 22 kills and added 14 digs for her 12th double-double in the past 14 matches. Davia Lee led all defenders with 24 digs with Gabi Mirand leading setters with 41 assists.
Southern Utah will return to the court on Thursday and Saturday with home matches against IUPUI and Western Illinois.
