ST. GEORGE — A father and his adult daughter were arrested Wednesday after police say the man tried to kidnap an 11-year-old girl.
Just after 11 p.m., a woman dropping off a friend at 35 W. 300 South in St. George went inside the home for a brief moment while her 11-year-old daughter stayed in the car.
While she was inside, a man walked over from his house across the street, opened the door and got into the driver's seat.
"When he closed the door the 11-year-old inquired as to who he was and what he was doing," according to a statement from St. George police.
The girl asked the man if she knew him.
"Donald just laughed in reply and yelled 'rape' at her," according to charging documents.
The man then revved the engine several times and began to back the car out, prompting the girl to scream. The man stopped the car, got out and the girl immediately locked the doors and started honking the horn, according to police.
The man ran across the street to his driveway and got into a car his daughter was in, police stated. Officers arrived before the car left the driveway. The man in the vehicle tried to run away, but was tackled and arrested, although he continued to resist, according to St. George police.
When officers talked to the man's daughter, she showed signs of being impaired. The daughter "was given standard field sobriety tests and failed," according to police.
Donald Alldredge, 52, was arrested and charged in 5th District Court Thursday with child kidnapping, a first degree felony, joyriding, failing to stop at the command of an officer and interfering with an arrest.
Daphne Alldredge, 24, was arrested for investigation of DUI. She was charged Thursday in 5th District Court with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
"It is unclear what the motive of Mr. Alldredge was, but it is believed that controlled substances were a factor," according to a police statement.
Donald Alldredge told police he thought he was getting into the car that was going to be his ride to the Sun Bowl.
"Donald admitted that he did not know who the child was and thought that she was either an angel or the devil," according to court documents.
