SALT LAKE CITY — A 30-year-old Midvale man was charged in 3rd District Court on Friday after stabbing his wife and his dog.

Cory Chivers was found walking away from the home where police were called to check on a disturbance on Dec. 17. Police told him to stop and noticed his face was covered in blood, according to court documents. Chivers then confessed to police that he had killed his wife, and said, "I killed everyone," which wasn't true, court documents state.

While the Chivers had allegedly stabbed the woman with a 5-inch steak knife, and received stab wounds himself, police noticed the family's dog was also bleeding and had a broken knife blade embedded in its back.

A veterinarian report indicated the dog had been stabbed four times and the blade had broken off in the dog's ribcage during the fourth blow. According to court documents the dog suffered from a partially collapsed lung and a punctured diaphragm, requiring emergency surgery to repair the wounds and remove the knife.
