Patricia Jeanine Pond Brough1929 ~ 2011Patricia Jeanine Pond Brough, our sweet and beautiful mother, passed away on December 21, 2011, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Pat was born February 12, 1929 in Petaluma, California, the daughter of Glen and Afton Hogan Pond, and raised in Logan, Utah. She was a Cache Valley girl and loved her "mountain home so dear."Pat was a popular and outgoing student body officer at Logan High, class of 1947. She attended Utah State Agricultural College, where she earned a Bachelor's degree. While at Utah State she met her future husband, Franklin Keith Brough, and they were wed on June 16, 1950 in the Logan Temple. She followed Frank to Michigan and Minnesota for his postgraduate studies, and to Wichita, Kansas, where he began his professional career, and where the first three of their six children were born. She often spoke of how happy those years were, and how much she loved the Saints in the Wichita Branch.Upon their return to Utah in 1957, Frank and Pat established a home in the Mount Olympus area, where together they raised a loving and close family. Pat was a gifted musician and accomplished pianist, and she taught piano lessons to many friends and their children in the neighborhood. She also played the organ for over 30 years in the Holladay 7th Ward, where her piano-organ duet of the Hallelujah Chorus was a beloved holiday tradition. In 1970, she passed her audition and joined the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, of which she was a member for 18 years. She was proud of that accomplishment and grateful for the opportunity it gave her to use her musical talent, travel the world, and participate in General Conference. Once her children were old enough to not need daily home care, Pat retired from teaching piano and put to use the secretarial skills she learned in college. She worked as a medical secretary in the pathology department at LDS Hospital for many years, a career she loved, and where she earned the affection and respect of her co-workers.Pat was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and by her beloved stepfather, William A. (Tony) Sorensen, as well as by her youngest son, Steven John Brough. She is survived by her children, Elisabeth Ann Mower, Franklin William (Elaine) Brough, Nancy Jane (Doug) Hoover, Karen Sue (Guy) Timothy, and Robert Keith Brough, as well as 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, at noon in the Fortuna Ward chapel, 4407 S. Fortuna Way.
