Barbara W. Stohel 2/1/1934 ~ 12/22/2011Our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and beloved friend, Barbara Joan Winther Stohel, 77, peacefully passed away on Wednesday December 22nd, 2011. Her patient, gracious and courteous manner will be missed by those who knew her but we will find comfort knowing that she is happy being in the presence of her parents for whom she longed for many years.Born February 1, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph Hyrum and Annie Virginia Winther. Barbara was raised in Salt Lake City and El Monte, California where she developed a love of nature. She especially loved the ocean, mountains, flowers and unusual rocks.She married John L. Stohel on February 19th, 1957 in Salt Lake City and had 12 children, whom she loved and sacrificed for continually. Barbara had a great fondness for children and went out of her way to help any she found. She spent her time looking for the best in people and would frown on anyone who gossiped or talked negatively about others.Barbara leaves behind her children Joseph, David (Penny), Rebecca (Jesse) Barlow, Jonathan (Lora), Nathan (Cheryl), Daniel (Nona), Heber, Ramona (Jesse) Barlow, Janet (David) Barlow, Ruth-Ann (Isaac) Barlow, Hyrum (Yolanda), daughter-in-law Amanda Shurtleff; 56 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grand-child. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Matthew.Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 27th, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple. Viewings will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday an hour prior to services at Larkin Mortuary. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 N Monroe Blvd, Ogden, Utah.The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Majestic Care who were good friends to Barbara the past 3 years and who were touched by her infectious laugh and good-natured manner.
