TAYLOR PARKER, Hurricane, basketball: This senior's consistency has been a big part of Hurricane's resurgence the last few weeks after a shaky 0-2 start.

Hurricane has won six straight, including victories over Wasatch and Lehi at last week's Dixie Great 8 tournament in St. George.

In a 53-44 win over Wasatch, Parker finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds and three steals in addition to playing great defense.

The following night against Lehi, he was instrumental in leading the Tigers to a 66-55 victory by scoring 20 points on 3-of-3 shooting from 3-point range. He also chipped in with seven rebounds and three steals.

Parker is no stranger to success, as he was the starting QB on Hurricane's state championship football team this year.

EMILIE VOLK, Bonneville, basketball: Emilie Volk is helping the Lakers win basketball games, but she's also the epitome of student-athlete with a 4.0 GPA.

"She is very gifted athletically and can play the 1-4 for our team," said coach Mike Russell. "She can create her own shot and she is a great defender. She's the full package. Emotionally she is like a rock; she doesn't get frustrated and she's never rattled by stressful situations."

The junior leads the team offensively, scoring 12.8 points per game. She also averages 4 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game for the fifth-ranked Lakers.

"Having Emilie brings a lot of leadership and experience and that has been good for our team," said Russell. "We are without a doubt a better team with Emilie."
