JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been voted to the Pro Bowl for a third consecutive season, becoming the fourth player in franchise history to accomplish the feat.
But the NFL's rushing leader didn't get the starting nod. Instead, he will back up Baltimore's Ray Rice in the NFL's all-star game in Hawaii on Jan. 29.
Jones-Drew says he's fine with being the backup, adding that he started ahead of Houston's Arian Foster last season even though Foster deserved the top spot.
Jones-Drew leads the league with 1,437 yards on the ground. Jacksonville's short and stocky star has been the offense's lone bright spot this season. He's averaging 4.5 yards a carry against eight- and nine-man defensive fronts and with little threat of a passing game.
