CONCORD, Calif. — Authorities say two people were hurt when a small airplane crashed at a county airfield in San Francisco Bay area suburb.
The Contra Costa Fire Protection District reports that the single-engine plane missed the runway and ended up in a grass area at Buchanan Field at 3:21 p.m. Tuesday.
Captain Kent Kirby says one person aboard suffered major injuries and the second person suffered moderate injuries. Both were transported to a nearby hospital and no further details on their identities were immediately released.
The crash did not spark a fire, but the north runway remains closed while authorities investigate the crash site.
Kirby says the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are en route to the scene.
