Rep. Jim Nielson, R-Bountiful, has drafted legislation to get rid of daylight saving time. I fully support his bill. Daylight saving time is a relatively modern innovation which was touted to lengthen laboring time or recreation time by literally changing the clock to enable more free time during hours of sunshine in the summer months.

It is a colossal nuisance to "spring forward" and "fall back" an hour. Nearly all stores and even farm vehicles have modern lighting. There is no need for such artificial adjustment. Not only is the resetting of clocks twice annually a chore, it is hard on the human body to adjust sleep patterns. It also imposes a hazard to schoolchildren who would encounter more darkness at the beginning of some days while they may wait for a school bus.

I hope daylight savings time is abolished, and not just in Utah.
